Rickkyz thought it wise to give out to its audience whom have been clamouring and yearning to meet their on song favourite toast of the moment as regards hard core indigenous rap in the street of Lagos... Kay Ess! With just weeks after the release of his widely accepted hit track "Sango Layewa" ... Kay Ess has been sort after by fans wanting to hear more and know him in person.
Thus, due to popular demand, Rickkyz took time out to hang out with Kay Ess, and some amazing facts were revealed first hand by Kay Ess himself in an expository interview.
Rickkyz - Hello, can we meet you please?
Kay Ess - Sure you can, I'm Adebisi from the Omotosho family. Popularly known by fans as Kay Ess; and I'm an Artist.
Rickkyz - Interesting! Adebisi is a cool name, why the name kay Ess?
Kay Ess - Actually, I got the name from a friend; he called me that name because of my "none giving up attitude". The full meaning is KOSI OMO NO 1, in English no one like him.
Rickkyz - Hmmm... So, when did u start music and how has it been so far?
Kay Ess - Music is a thing that I love seriously. I grew up listening
to Pac, Nas, Biggie, Ice Cube and others. I dance and mime most of my
favourite rappers song in schools and events in my high school years. I
started writing my own lyrics since 2006. Basically, my first recording
was sometime in 2008, I was featured in a song.
Rickkyz - Any regrets?
Kay Ess - None at all... because is what I love doing. Cash might be
slow to enter, but with time it will. For now, I will just be focused
and I believe hard work and prayer will do the trick!
Rickkyz - (jokingly) I like the way you encourage yourself
Kay Ess - *laughs out loud*
Rickkyz - The first time I heard your mix tape "Sango Layewa", I was
like ... Amazing! This Bro is killing it, so fast and swift. Despite the
fact that the lines were deeply rooted in Yoruba language, I still felt
it was so on point! What inspired such a record?
Kay Ess - Nothing special... it just happened. On the day I recorded the
freestyle, I was in the studio with Sharpnote who is also an Artist.
After working on his song which I was featured in, the Producer was like
"dude I love your style I will love to work with you" and I obliged. He
worked his magic and I freestyle. That’s how the song came up. After
that day, I said to myself " it's time for me to make a mixtape which I
titled "Area Codez"
Rickkyz - Great! Since the release of the song, I heard it on 104.5 love FM almost every day. How does that make you feel?
Kay Ess - *chuckles* On top of the world... Is a great stuff for an Artist to be heard and appreciated.
Rickkyz - With big names like Olamide, Reminisce who are sitting high up in terms of Yoruba rap. Don't you feel intimidated?
Kay Ess - *laughs*... Never! I don’t in anyway. I don't look up to
anyone but God alone. Everybody has got his own style, and I believe my
style will speak for me. I'm doing it for the love of it, though its
business as well. I will love to hit a platinum with my own style and
when I'm done recording, I will look in the mirror and say to myself ''I
did it my own way....''
Rickkyz - It seems you are in love with hard core?
Kay Ess - Yeah! That’s what I do and that’s how we live in Alogaene.
Rickkyz - We heard that at the end of your song and wanted to ask later,
but since you’ve drawn our attention let me quickly ask you. Is it an
entertainment home or a record label? What is Alogaene?
Kay Ess - That’s where we dwell, Alogaene is home. If you call it a
record label you right, to me it's home. Alogaene Entertainment is a
music home for good Artist that understand what they are doing.
Rickkyz - How do you feel being part of Alogaene, and what role do you play?
Kay Ess - I feel good because they make me good... What role? I'm a
gate man *laughs out loud*. You know this already... I'm a Rap Artist, I
do nothing but drop good music to the tape for the house. We done? Are
we done right here? *laughs again*
Rickkyz - Which Artist will you like to work with now if giving the chance?
Kay Ess - Wizkid
Rickkyz - There's this notion about Rappers and drugs... What's your take?
Kay Ess - Well I don’t know about others as for me, I don't do bullshit to get high, I get high like normal person should have fun.
Rickkyz - You are a graduate I believe?
Kay Ess - Yea, I read business Administration and management.
Rickkyz - Cool! A lot of people who are reading are willing to be like you, what do you advice?
Kay Ess - They should be themselves, don’t let anybody tell you that you
cant do it, anything you feel like you wanna become you will, if you
give your best. Winners never give up!
Rickkyz - Any last word for your fans and loved ones?
Kay Ess - Don’t do drugs, stay in class and get a good grade so that you can make mama proud.
Rickkyz - It's been a pleasure having you around and we say a big thank
for granting us audience despite your tight schedule. Wishing you all
the best in your career Mr. kay Ess....
Kay Ess - Amen! is my pleasure!
Yeah! And that's a wrap from us. Remember, you got it here first... Kay
Ess heading straight to the top. Adebisi Omotosho aka Kay Ess - Let that
name sink in.
